Alaska

"Memory Is consequence."

Alaska (named after one of the many home movies used in the project) is an autobiography unlike any other. Through the use of intuitive editing, music, image overlays, live performance, dance, and public domain cartoons, Alaska demonstrates the complicated, wonderful, and sometimes terrifying force childhood trauma can have on your life. Over the course of 13 original tracks, as well as humorous interstitials, the film explores moments of freedom, shame, and the absurd horror of growing up. Instead of utilizing narrative, Alaska uses dream logic and imagery to create a compelling, and at times overwhelming, emotional experience.

The Heron

"We have to stop him. I have a plan."

Sally and her older brother, Jack, are haunted by a black, oily heron as they attempt to save their mother from their father's plan to place her in a mental institution.

"Making "The Heron" was like pulling a tumor out of my chest. While making this film I had a real opportunity to explore my own fears, childhood, and struggle with mental illness. Through this process, which was a long and difficult one, I feel as if I am finally able to see myself for who I am. It excites me that I will be able to share this with the world."

The Picture in the House

"It's strange how pictures can get a body thinking'..."

Caught in the rain on a bicycling trip home from Miskatonic University, Ben takes shelter in a seemingly abandoned house in the middle of nowhere. He quickly realizes that the shelter he sought provides little in the way of safety. Based on a short story by H.P. Lovecraft.

"The Picture in the House is one of my favorite stories from H.P. Lovecraft. Lovecraft is an author that I read at least a few times every year, and I have a bad habit of buying new editions of his stories every time I encounter them. This was a really fun, small shoot. The whole thing cost us about $200, but I really love how it came together."
